JOHOR BARU: Residents in Batu Pahat are reminded to store enough water as there will be water rationing in the district beginning March 29.

Syarikat Air Johor Sdn Bhd (SAJ) in a statement, said the rationing would be for one month until April 29.
“This is mainly due to the Bekok Dam’s low water level and the Bekok River’s unfavourable water quality,” SAJ corporate communications manager Jamaluddin Jalil said.

He said water levels at the Bekok Dam has dropped to 9.3 metres, making the Sri Gading, Parit Raja 4, and Yong Peng 2 and 3 water treatment plants unable to operate at its normal capacity.
Jamaludin added that at the same time, the Bekok River was experiencing water quality issues as tests showed high levels of aluminium, ammonia and chloride in the water.

“As a result, water rationing will be implemented in Batu Pahat to sustain the water level at the Bekok Dam,” Jamaluddin said.
He also reassured customers that the rationing would be halted if water levels at the dam and river increased, thereby allowing the treatment plant to resume operations as usual.

“However, if the situation worsens, we will release another water rationing schedule to cope with the matter,” he said.
